What makes our Barn House’s “Eco”

The word eco has many associations, so it’s important we break down what eco means to us. When we use the word eco we are referring to both environmental protection and economical potential!

Our barn houses / shed houses are eco-friendly builds. They have a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional home designs. They are also economical, as they are more affordable than a large traditional home build. We design larger barn homes to cater for families with bigger build budgets, but our small designs give a more affordable option to those on a small budget, who may not have previously been able to afford to build a new home.

Our barn houses / shed houses are created using 100% Australian steel and timber prefab materials. Our Steel is a 100% recyclable material, unlike many other materials and it's possible to reuse all the waste for a range of uses. Steel is even considered the most recyclable material in the world with more steel recycled each year than paper, glass and plastic combined. Our timber frames are also 100% recyclable and renewable. Timber is one of the most energy efficient materials due to its main production factor being solar energy. Timber requires significant less artificial energy in its production than other materials.

In terms of maintenance and longevity our homes are design to minimise future works and maximise resources and materials with high levels of durability. Steel is known for its durability and minimal maintenance needs. This long-term durability means less money required to upkeep your home. Timber is also known for its lightweight qualities while maintaining a high level of strength and weather resistance.

Our barn house / shed house designs have multiple pre-fab construction methods, thus creating less need for excessive material use reducing overall costs. This range of multiple methods also allows us to use the material most suitable to your environment and budget. We also use systems and designs that utilise minimal excavations, smaller footprints and sustainable materials, which means our shed homes are creating a much smaller environmental impact and less overall construction cost.

Designs utilising the principles of sustainability, passive solar design and natural resources create homes that require less heating, cooling and artificial lighting. Saving the environment and your pocket. We take pride in ensuring our designs allow the occupant to live comfortably year round, without excessive power usage. Ensuring designs meet a clients brief without over designing a space, helps us balance a smaller environmental impact and adequate living amenities. All of our homes meet a minimum 7-star energy requirement and we aim to increase this as much as possible.

We take our commitment to the environment seriously. This is why we have partnered with Greenfleet to offset our carbon emissions by growing protected native forests.

Greenfleet is a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation protecting our climate by restoring our forests. Greenfleet plants native biodiverse forests to capture carbon emissions and help fight the impacts of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 10.3 million trees across 550 forests in Australia and New Zealand. As they grow, these forests absorb carbon, improve soil and water quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species. Through practical climate action, Greenfleet is growing hope for our climate. Learn more at: greenfleet.com.au
